Removing JavaScript from PDFs
For security purposes, PDFs containing JavaScript (JS) code cannot be uploaded to AdvisorEngine CRM. To create a file that can be uploaded, either the code must be removed using Adobe Acrobat, or a new copy must be exported without the JS features.
Caution! The steps below are provided as a courtesy to AE CRM users, but document functionality of other softwares and are subject to change without AdvisorEngine’s knowledge. Please refer to
Adobe Support or the appropriate support center for your product if you encounter difficulties.
Exporting a New Copy without JavaScript
The following process should work on any JS-enabled PDF. It creates a new, “flat” copy of the file with any JS features removed. It is, in essence, like printing the PDF to physical paper.
- Open the JS-enabled PDF in the PDF viewer of your choice.
- Select the Print option in the viewer.
- Set the Printer to a PDF printer. If you have Microsoft Office installed, you should have access to Microsoft Print to PDF.
- Click Print. You are prompted to select a file location and specify a file name for the new copy.
- After the PDF is generated, upload the new copy to AE CRM.
Authoring the PDF without JavaScript
If you are the original author of the PDF or have access to the full Adobe Acrobat application, you should be able to edit the file to remove the JavaScript code.
That process is beyond the scope of this article, so please check with Adobe Support if you require assistance.
