Record Summary and Workflow on ONE screen

My main job is to process business and most of my directions come from action workflows.  The information I then need is from the record summary.

This re-design has CREATED MORE STEPS.  I can no longer see the record summary information while having an action open to read both sets of information and process new business.

The new layout makes for a lot of switching back and forth between the action and the client data needed to process paperwork.  Once you switch to the summary, the action that I was on has to be found again.  Am I missing something here?
