Recently, our firm did a mass mailing and used the letter function with merger fields to accomplish this. ALL the letters where saved to each individual account (meaning 100+ pages in each record, with other client information). 

A great function would be to only save the letter relevant to the individual to each individual's record, instead of having 100+ random pages with other clients' information on them.
