How best to track client gift expenses in Advisor Engine?

The old desktop Junxure had dedicated fields for tracking client gift expenses. Actions provided an expenses tab that could track the cost of an individual gift purchase. The dashboard for a contact record had a table that automatically added up expenses from actions and displayed them in one place. See attached screenshots (these do not show any personally identifiable information). 

Advisor Engine doesn't do these things. Our company would like to find a way to track gift expenses in Advisor Engine as easily as possible. Below are the options recommended to us by staff at Advisor Engine.

RECOMMENDATIONS FROM ADVISOR ENGINE

1) Create an action to manually track gift expenses for a client for the current calendar year. 

2) Create a user-defined field, using the "currency" data format, in the household record. Manually update this field as necessary.

3) Manually post the running total of annual gift expenses in the "Reminders" tab at the top of the household record.
